On #GivingTuesday, PuroClean Emergency Recovery Services supports and gives to Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia™.
Our decision to support this fine organization is based on 8 reasons!
Did you know that:
First, since 1985, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia™ has built over 170 houses throughout the city of Philadelphia. Their efforts help people in our city achieve the “American Dream” of home ownership.
Second, the Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia™ program isn’t just another “handout.” The Habitat ™ program for home ownership actually helps to break the cycle of poverty. The program helps ensure that the families who work their 350 “sweat equity” hours on their own house or other Habitat ™ houses get to see the results of their labor in the form of a down payment and a no-interest mortgage.
Third, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia™ works with all types of families. And, assistance isn’t based on race, creed or color. A typical partner family is a hardworking single parent of three, earning between $25,000 and $35,000 a year.
In addition, Habitat ™ Philadelphia constructs new houses. But, maybe even more importantly, they restore vacant properties to new life. Their efforts are helping to re-vitalize many neighborhoods in Philadelphia!
Habitat ™ Philadelphia builds and rehabilitates row homes. Most of these homes have two or three bedrooms. With new construction projects, Habitat ™ makes every effort to match the architectural design to the existing architecture in the blocks where they are building. Whether the home is rehabilitated or newly constructed, all Habitat ™ homes are built with care for the family who will be living there and for the neighborhood where it’s located.
Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia™ started the “ReStore” in September of 2011. The ReStore serves as an outlet to accept donated goods for resale. And, the profits help fund the construction of more houses. In addition, when you donate to the ReStore, while you enjoy a tax deduction, you also help to provide the Philadelphia community with a source of low-cost building materials, furniture and home goods. Another benefit of your donation? Donations to the ReStore save tons of materials from going into landfills. In the past year alone, the ReStore diverted over 275 TONS of waste from landfills!
Habitat ™ Philadelphia’s mission to provide decent, affordable housing for everyone includes a commitment to “going green.” Building “green” means creating sustainable housing. Why? Because it’s better for the environment, more economical for the families. In addition, going green has a positive social impact on the communities where Habitat ™ builds.
And lastly, did you know that 1 in every 8 Philadelphia homeowners won’t be able to make critical repairs to their homes?
Here at PuroClean Emergency Recovery Services, we know this problem exists!
We’ve experienced it first-hand.
Too often we’ve been called out to an emergency water loss clean up or do fire damage restoration job when the homeowner can’t pay for the critical repairs and restoration work. Sometimes it’s because the insurance deductible is too high and the family just doesn’t have the funds. And sometimes, it’s because the damage isn’t covered by the insurance.
But, did you also know that Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia™ started a Weatherization and Home Repair Program (WHRP) in 2011 to address this need? The goal of this program is to prevent property damage before it occurs! By educating the residents on proper care of their home and providing low- or no-interest loans and an energy audit, Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia™ Weatherization and Home Repair Program helps stabilize the neighborhoods where Habitat ™ works. It’s one of the ways Habitat ™ keeps homes from being abandoned after property damage.
And, we’re in good company. Check out this video of Jon Bon Jovi doing his part for the City of Philadelphia:
